Art inspired by history
We are a cosmopolitan cultural incubator which revives the fine arts as they were known in the eighteenth century by organising projects in historically-informed practice.
Who was Karl Theodor?
From his court in Mannheim, Elector Karl Theodor (1724–1799), invested heavily in arts, culture, and sciences. He sought to create a harmonious society built on knowledge, reason, and artistic expression. He promoted science and culture and attracted all sorts of musicians, writers, dancers, actors, architects, artists, scientists, and more from all around Europe to his court, where they all intermingled and created a new intellectual boon.
Founded in 2022 to further our work Inspired by Karl Theodor’s legacy, we seeks to preserve living arts and cultural heritage from the eighteenth century through research and revival of historical artistic practice for appreciation by a modern public.
We organise, support, facilitate, and promote performance of, exhibition, and research into historically-informed artistic aesthetics and practices, with a focus on the interdisciplinary study of Europe in the long eighteenth century (1670–1830), including but not limited to aesthetics, philosophy of art, rhetoric, music, theater, dance, literature, design, painting, sculpture, and architecture. Such activities to be carried out include but are not limited to the production of concerts, live performances, audio and visual recordings, exhibitions, artistic research sessions, research symposiums, educational workshops, academies, as well as print and digital publications.
